Many of you will remember me speaking of my grandfather, the Indiana coach from #EastChicagoIndiana in my first blog. #EastChicagoIndiana now has a #Facebook page from which I was able to grab a photo of my grandfather’s 1932 State Champion Football team.
My grandfather is on the second row, all the way to the right. However, that’s not what I want you to see.
Note that the year is 1 9 3 2, many years before the #CivilRightsMovement. If you recall, my grandfather wanted the best players on his team, not the “right” ones from that city, thus, his melting pot of players. Look at each face on his team: there are young men from different backgrounds and working together, they created a winning team – Indiana State Champions in 1932.
This historical photo gives insight to the place from which I come and not coincidentally, the place I want our country to go.
